Quotes to Question

  • "'Your job is the relentless pursuit of who God has made you to be. And anything else you do is sin and you need to repent of it.'"-pg. 114
  • "I am not defined by what I am not."-pg. 115
  • "Why blame the dark for being dark? It is far more helpful to ask why the light isn't as bright as it could be."-pg.166
  • "If the gospel isn't good news for everybody, then it isn't good news for anybody."-pg.167
  • "One of the illusions of faith is that at some point we get it all mapped out and things get smooth and predictable. It is not true. The way of Jesus is a journey, not a destination. On a journey, the scenery changes. A lot."-pg.168

I have a question: where are you? I haven't seen you in a long time. I believe the last time I saw you was around Fall Break 06. And I do not remember hearing you talk much. But before that, it would have to be over a year since I really had a conversation with you! Long time, no see!

Response to the first quote listed:
I'm not sure I fully agree with that. If you pursue God Himself, you will become who He has made you to be. It is so easy to fall into the trap of legalism and spend so much time worrying about who you are supposed to be you forget Who He is. Your job is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. He's the Potter. He can take care of forming you for His purpose.

I agree. God is the point, not our identity. We make our identity the point and we miss it. We have no true identity apart from God. There will be more on this in a later post about where meaning comes from.
